About

Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR), located in historic downtown Cumberland, Maryland, offers motorcoach groups a memorable journey through the scenic mountains of Western Maryland. As one of the region’s premier heritage tourism attractions, WMSR combines breathtaking Appalachian scenery, railroad history, and exceptional hospitality to create a destination experience ideally suited for group travel.

Guests travel aboard beautifully restored vintage railcars along the historic rail corridor between Cumberland and Frostburg, Maryland. The excursion features sweeping mountain views, historic landmarks, and the impressive climb through the Allegheny Mountains. Depending on the excursion selected, groups can choose from traditional coach seating, upgraded classes, dining experiences, and seasonal or themed events.

WMSR welcomes more than 85,000 guests annually and has been recognized as one of the top scenic railroads in the United States. The railroad is also proud to be the nation’s first heritage railroad designated as a Certified Autism Center, reflecting its commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming experience for guests of all abilities. Motorcoach groups are especially welcome.

WMSR can work with tour operators to coordinate group reservations, arrival and boarding, seating, meal options, accessibility needs, and customized experiences. Convenient motorcoach access in downtown Cumberland also allows WMSR to serve as an anchor attraction for multi-stop itineraries throughout Western Maryland.
